Clifton 100 Lodge No. 9242 was established to provide Freemasons in the villages of Clifton, Henlow, and the surrounding areas with a Lodge that was both accessible and community-focused. At a time when many Brethren faced the challenges of long and costly journeys to London, the vision was to create a local Lodge that would unite members closer to home, strengthening bonds and fostering fellowship.
The name 'Clifton 100' was inspired by the historic Hundred of Clifton, recorded in the Domesday Book, symbolising the Lodge’s deep connection to the region’s heritage. This founding principle—of serving the local community while upholding the values of Freemasonry—continues to guide the Lodge to this day.
Clifton 100 Lodge No. 9242 was officially consecrated on 23rd October 1987 at the Robinson Temple in Kempston, Bedfordshire. The ceremony was a momentous occasion, presided over by the Provincial Grand Master and attended by Brethren from across the region. This historic event marked the beginning of a new chapter in Freemasonry, bringing together members from the local villages of Clifton, Henlow, and beyond.
The consecration ceremony not only established the Lodge as a beacon of Masonic values in Bedfordshire but also set the tone for its enduring commitment to fellowship, tradition, and charity. The event remains a proud milestone in the history of Clifton 100 Lodge, symbolising the shared vision and dedication of its founding members.
The founding of Clifton 100 Lodge No. 9242 was the result of a shared vision among a group of Freemasons who wanted to create a Lodge rooted in the local community. Spearheaded by W. Bros. Anthony Rogers, Alan Gooding, Christopher Worrell, and Anthony Nott, the founding members recognised the need for a Lodge that would bring together Brethren from the villages of Clifton, Henlow, and surrounding areas.
At the time, many local Freemasons faced the challenge of long and costly journeys to London for Lodge meetings. The founding members wanted to eliminate this barrier, providing a more accessible and convenient space for fellowship and Masonic growth. They were inspired by the rich history of the region, particularly the Hundred of Clifton, referenced in the Domesday Book, which influenced the name of the Lodge.
The story of Clifton 100 Lodge is one of vision, determination, and community spirit. The founding members not only laid the groundwork for a thriving Lodge but also instilled the values of fellowship, charity, and tradition that continue to guide the Lodge today.
